Project Africa UpdateIn December, a team of six students and two mentors travelled to Vukuzenele and conducted an assessment of the water conditions there. They tested water quality and interviewed local health providers, travelled to the closest municipality to discuss water resources with local officials, and listened to community members’ hopes for their village. Currently, we are assembling a proposal to return to the village, hopefully this June. We’d like to install a pilot water filter, measure the depth of the water table for a bore hole, and measure changes in water supply and water quality during the dry African winter months. Please contact either of the Team AFRICA project managers Joy Jeyaratnam or Katie Hyrila for information on how you can get involved. |
We are proud to announce that in December our Africa project was selected by EWB-USA and Boeing for $10K in funding. If you’re a professional in engineering, medicine, or education and you’d like to become involved in this project, please contact Katie, Joy, or Dr. Laura Sullivan, the EWB-Kettering advisor.
